Jennifer Lindgren – 2018 Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmer

Jennifer and Jordan Lindgren, along with their four children, own and operate Lindgren Farms at Norquay, Saskatchewan.  Lindgren Farms is a 13000 acre grain and oilseed farm and have recently purchased a seed cleaning plant and are excited to be growing pedigree seed this upcoming year. Jennifer and Jordan work diligently at maximizing production for these crops, while minimizing cost of production.  They do this by using field scale trials to determine what products, genetics and practices work on their farm.  By combining these methods, with the latest advancements in technology, they continue to meet and exceed their production goals.

They not only place importance on educating themselves, but also sharing this information with fellow farmers. They partner with local agriculture distributors to host the “Field of Dreams” tour that is held annually on their farm. It is an opportunity to share trial results from previous years and showcase the current trials that are focussed on new genetics, applications and variable fertilizer rates. Jennifer and Jordan also educate the next generation on the importance of farming and teaching them where their food comes from. They host a “Food Farm” in the spring and fall on their farm. This is an interactive, hands on tour focusing on farm safety, how plants are grown, harvested and then making the connection on how it gets to their plate.

Jennifer and Jordan recently returned from Australia where they were guest speakers at three conferences hosted by the Grains Research and Development Corporation. These conferences included farmers and industry leaders from across Australia. They were honored to share their farming story, as well as have the opportunity to make connections with farmers across the globe.

Family and agriculture are the most important aspects of their lives. They take great pride in being able to continue their century family farm and are passionate at maintaining the family aspect in the everchanging corporate farm environment.

Tonia Jahshan  Founder and President, Steeped Tea

In just 12 short years, Tonia Jahshan, with her family by her side, has made premium loose leaf tea the daily norm, by turning tea lovers into business owners, through her direct sales company, Sipology by Steeped Tea.

Her journey started in 2006, happily pregnant for the first time—she was headed home from a normal day at the sales and marketing agency she ran with her father. As she drove, she felt the first symptoms of what every expectant parent dreads: a miscarriage. The loss was devastating. To get away from the trauma of the miscarriage they decided to take a mini vacation to a Halifax bed and breakfast, where for the first time she tried Cream of Earl Grey loose leaf tea. Blown away by the taste and smell, the owner of the B & B told her it was from a shop in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. The Jahshans drove an hour west to find the boutique, stock up, and simply share the great taste with their family and friends. The purchase of the bag of tea turned into something more than just that. Tonia quickly told Hatem that she was going to start a business. “And I’m going to call it Steeped Tea,” she said.

In 2012, armed with passion and perseverance, her journey took off when she partnered with two dragons, Jim Treliving and David Chilton through CBC’s Dragons’ Den. Today, the company has thousands of Sipologists across North America selling loose leaf tea, Matcha, Kombucha, a medicinal tea & essential oil line called Heal-thy-self and teaware. Sipology by Steeped Tea  has been recognized year over year, as one of PROFIT 500 Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies, and Tonia, herself, has been garnered Canada’s #1 Female Entrepreneur by W100 in 2016; she also received the Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneurial Winning Women award and has been listed as 1 of 6 Women to Watch on forbes.com

Tonia lives in Ancaster, Ontario with her 3 children and husband Hatem.
